Ingredient Storage Hoppers (11) with Central Dust Collection • Scaling and Vacuum Transfer of Minors •
Conditioning of Silo Void Space
Materials Handled: (11) Minor Ingredients
Solution Overview
Minor Ingredient Batching:
Shick supplied (11) bins with an integrated support and access platform for hand loading minor ingredients.
A central dust collection system applies a negative draw on each bin, thus eliminating excessive dust when
loading. Each bin is equipped with a variable speed volumetric feeder which incorporates a modulating sidewall
to enhance material flow and consistent bulk density. The hopper and auger of each feeder are specifically
designed for the ingredient it handles, taking into account the unique characteristics of each material,
thereby ensuring accuracies and repeatability.
Vacuum Conveying: To ensure that 100% of each scaled minor ingredient
is transferred to the mixer receivers, a vacuum conveying system was incorporated. Dry conditioned air,
supplied from the minor ingredient room, is the source of air for the vacuum system which enhances
ingredient discharge into the mixer.
Integrated System Control: Shick partnered with the mixer supplier
to integrate mixer functions such as temperature, start, stop, tilt and other commands into our PLC system
for status and monitoring on a CRT terminal. In addition to the bulk flour and minor ingredients, Shick
engineered and incorporated the liquid shortening and water additions into the control system.
