Final Product: Activated Carbon
Project Scope:
Truck Unloading • Bulk Storage - (1) 2850 Ft3 Silo • Silo Fluidization Discharge • Surge Bin
- (1) 30 Ft3 • Bulk Pneumatic Transfer (3) • Volumetric Feeders (3) • Eductors (3)
Materials Handled: Activated Carbon
Solution Overview
Rate Control:
Activated carbon injected into flue gas is currently designated as the Best Available Control Technology
(BACT) by the EPA for mercury removal. To maximize the efficiency, a consistent flow of carbon is required.
The system has the ability to manually increase or decrease the flow of activated carbon as needed for mercury
removal. Three volumetric feeders, which feed (3) venturi eductors, were provided to maintain the correct
flow of the powdered activated carbon into the flue gas stream. These volumetric feeders, in conjunction
with the Shick-supplied PLC, also provided the customer with a running log of carbon usage for proper
verification.
Multiple Use Points: To maximize efficiency while maintaining cost,
Shick engineered a pneumatic transfer system which utilized a single bulk silo, which feeds (3) separate
economizers.
