Automated Bulk Chemicals Handling, Unloading, Storage

Project: Bulk Chemicals Handling

Final Product: Lead Products

Project Scope: Bulk Storage - (1) 1300 Ft3 • Bulk bag Unloading Stations (3) • Intermediate Storage Bins (4) • Cooling of Conveying Air Using Heat Exchangers • Pneumatic Transfer, Scaling and Discharge to Reactors • Blending, Transfer, Mixing, Cooling and Discharge to Process • Local and Central Dust Collection with Negative Fans and Secondary Safety Filters • Storage and Discharge to Packaging

Materials Handled: Tribase • Dythal • Dyphose • Calcium Carbonate • Barium Stearate • Pthalic Anhydride • Stearic Acid • Antimony Oxide TMS • Silica • Lead Stearate • Paraffin

Solution Overview

Containment of Hazardous Materials: Many of the dry ingredients handled are lead products or other toxic materials. Great emphasis was placed on storing, conveying and discharging these sensitive materials, ensuring that no dust was leaked from the system into the plant atmosphere. All rotary valves feeding transfer systems are vented to their source collectors. All systems conveying to scales return to their source point, providing closed-loop system integrity. As an additional safety measure, dust collectors are provided with a negative fan and inline secondary safety filter at the clean air outlet. Air relief vents on scales used during discharge are automatically sealed during the scale fill cycle.

Incorporation of Existing Process Equipment: Shick provided increased plant capacity and enhanced flexibility by interfacing the new reactor system, expanded storage and packaging with the customer's existing process equipment. Utilizing process experience, Shick was able to incorporate the existing equipment with the new system while maintaining production, thereby providing the customer with substantial cost savings.
